Holiday Recipe: Oreo Truffle

We here at Haylow Insurance want to wish all of our clients a wonderful holiday season. To express our Christmas cheer, we would like to share one of our favorite holiday recipes. Oreo truffles combine the classic flavors of chocolate with the decadence of cream cheese. This recipe is quick and easy to make, and it is perfect for gift-giving or holiday parties.

Oreo Truffles

Ingredients:

36 Oreo cookies

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

16 ounces semi-sweet chocolate

Place the cookies in a large zip top bag, and finely crush them with a rolling pin. Alternatively, you can use a food processor to crush the cookies. Set aside 1/4 cup of the crumbs. Place the remaining crumbs in a large bowl, and mix in the softened cream cheese. Shape into four dozen one inch balls. Place the balls on a cookie sheet, and refrigerate for at least an hour.

Put the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 2-3 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds. When the chocolate is smooth, remove it from the microwave.

Using a pair of forks, dip the cream cheese balls into the melted chocolate. Roll them in the chocolate until they are completely coated, and lift them out, allowing the excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl. Set the truffles on parchment paper-lined trays, and sprinkle with reserved crumbs. Refrigerate the trays until the chocolate is firm. Remove from trays, and store in the refrigerator, tightly covered.
